Originally a watchtower between Todi and Amelia, this castle dates back to year 1000. The panoramic position, with a magnificent view of Todi, was a strategic choice of the Middle Ages: the Tower of the castle was actually part of a system of watch towers built up to help to raise the alarm in case of danger for the town.
The original structure of the castle has remained untouched: high and strong stone walls, brick-built arches, wide stone-built fireplaces, beautiful Italian gardens and fountains recreate the old atmosphere.
The total area of the castle is about 500 m2 spread over six floors with an elevator connecting the first to third floors. On the ground floor there is a large kitchen and a spacious living room with stone walls and brick vaulted ceilings and a majestic Tuscan fireplace. From the corridor beside the kitchen, an elevator gives easy access to the upper floors and a door opens into a large paved terrace, overlooking the Tiber river.
On the first floor is a spacious and elegant living room with large stone fireplace. A double arch separates this area from the main entrance. Large bedroom with en-suite bathroom, terrace sheltered by a gazebo enjoying a superb view of the Tiber river.
A stone spiral staircase connects to the corridor on the second floor. On this floor, there are three spacious double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and a studio with fireplace.
The tower is the most charming area of the castle, with a suite composed of a sitting room and bathroom with shower on the third floor and a further bedroom with skylight, scenic windows and balcony on the fourth floor. The fifth floor is made of a scenic walkway.
Next to the castle lies a lovely dependence composed of a bedroom, kitchen/living room and a bathroom. Near the dependence there is an additional outbuilding currently used to store tools and that could be converted into a liveable area.
The property sits on a 1.7 hectares land with an amazing Italian garden, partly bordered by high stone walls. The garden features an amphitheatre, hedges, a gracious pond with water jets, fountains and a splendid pergola with outdoor furniture for al fresco dinners.
In a private scenic position, facing south-west, there is the 5×10 panoramic pool. An olive grove completes the property.
The location of the castle offers a wide and open view of the Umbrian Valley, from river Tiber to Todi. Situated less than 8 kms from the splendid medieval town of Todi in the region of Umbria.
This historical property is protected under the law ruling the Italian Cultural and Artistic Heritage. This protection includes some tax benefits on: Municipal property tax (IMU), registration fee, stamp duties, mortgage registration fee and Land Register fee.
