Getting to and from Kanawa Island has never been easier. After arriving on Flores, a five minute ride from the airport to the harbor and a fifteen minute speedboat ride from the island of Flores are the only hurdles that separate you from paradise.
Located in Labuan Bajo, the capital of the West Manggarai Regency, Komodo Airport is less than an hour flight from The Bali International Airport. With four flights daily and a small plethora of privately based air transport options, arriving in Flores is not only convenient but comfortable as well.
Komodo National Park, the last remaining natural habitat of the world’s largest lizard – the Komodo dragon, is one of the most unique and beautiful places on the planet. Approximately 2,500 giant prehistoric komodo lizards make their home in the confines of the national park; exclusively on the islands of Komodo and Rinca. The national park’s reach includes not only the island of Komodo but also the surrounding island groups. Internationally recognized as an outstanding storehouse of globally significant terrestrial and marine biodiversity and, in acknowledgment of this immense intrinsic value, it was designated a ‘Man and Biosphere Reserve’ in 1986 and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991.
Indonesia is blessed with spectacular and unique natural and cultural beauty. Its slogan, “Land of Endless Diversity” is an incredible understatement. However, the problem of how to develop a destination this is both attractive and pleasing to tourists, create economic and social benefits for the local population and both preserve its natural as well as its cultural heritage is a problem that is faced by most of Indonesia’s 520 districts. The district of West Manggarai on the island of Flores, which faces the island of Komodo, offers great opportunity to achieve all of the aforementioned development considerations.

Kanawa Island is currently uninhabited and located 6 miles off the coast of Flores, and therefore grid connections for water and electricity are not available.
