The 4-WD road is still maintained for summer recreation and access to the high mountains and not too distant Creede. The two claims were staked by the Niegold Brothers who had immigrated from Germany to search for riches promised by gold and silver discoveries in the Rocky Mountains. They developed their claims into a small community (Niegold Town) comprised of general store, inn, saloon, homes and cabins, long since faded away. Later owners in the late 1920's built a substantial tramway from the Buffalo Boy Mine high above timberline to this property which is still the location of the lower tramhouse, included in the purchase. The tramhouse was partially built out into a home in the 1970's and was inhabited until its abandonment in 2006. The structure is very substantial with huge posts and beams designed to withstand the dynamics and weight of the tram cables and ore filled buckets.
