In Moorish times, Jorox and it's flour mills played a very important role in sustaining life in these parts. People lived here in this valley over 500 years, until Queen Isabella threw them all out! Molino del Rey was the biggest and most stately of seven water mills here when the place was alive.
When electricity came to the neighbouring villages, what was once an actual village, Jorox became deserted and the rights of being a proper village, passed over to being controlled as a hamlet of the next village, Alozaina. Most moved away from making flour, and the place became a ghost town. The King of Spain had to sign the rights of the lovely water spring over to Alozaina. The village pretty much lives off the water from the mill.
The old mill was totally destroyed after a daughter of the miller suicide,(apparently after being raped by soldiers). The father and miller was so distraught over the death of his daughter, that he completely demolished the entire buildings and the whole family moved away. It was all left abandoned and totally overgrown, until the present owner appeared on the scene, fell in love with the mill and surroundings and turned it into one of the most beautiful, magical places in Andalusia.
