The massive Palazzo Ruspoli in Nemi, in the heart of the Alban Hills, was built on a pre-existing medieval castle of the Counts of Tuscolo.

The current prospect dates back to many works carried out between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. It overlooks Nemi Lake, dominating the picturesque village of the same name.

Palazzo Ruspoli is around 7,500 m2 set in a wood of 27 hectares on the lake of Nemi. The palace is in need of restoration and inside are many historical pictures and Roman exhibits with a staircase of Vanitelli, a famous architect.

Built in the 9th century and renovated during the Renaissance it is articulated around a cylindrical tower and is surrounded by a roof garden Inside it is preserved ancient marble fragments and 18th century decorations, it was sold to a private company which began intense restoration work as yet unfinished. At the present time only a small part of the building is used by the town for cultural events.

Located about 40 meters above Umberto Square in Nemi the castle overlooks Nemi Lake, dominating the picturesque village of the same name. Palazzo Ruspoli is the main monument in Nemi and is named after the family who bought it in 1901.
